In April, rates for several DWP disability benefits rose by 10.1% in-line with inflation and the triple lock, to help households cope with rising living costs, including Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
We’re here to explain PIP rates for 2023, along with how much these rates have increased, whether you’re eligible, how to apply and what similar benefits have seen payment increases.
As a result of these increases in PIP rates, you could now get over £700 each month! Around three million people currently claim PIP in the UK.

We aren't able to provide Personal Independence Payment (PIP) advice through our concierge service. For help when trying to claim PIP, call the PIP claims contact number on 0800 917 2222. Citizens Advice, Turn2us and many local authorities can also provide free and confidential PIP advice.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) comprises two components:
Each of these components has a standard and enhanced rate, depending on how great your needs are.
When claiming PIP, you’ll be assessed by a medical professional to determine how much help you require and which rate(s) you qualify for. You could be eligible for both or just one of the components.
PIP rates increased by 10.1% for 2023/2024, in line with inflation. The 2023/2024 daily living component of PIP is worth £101.75 for the enhanced rate and £68.10 for the standard rate. The mobility component is worth £71.00 for the enhanced rate and £26.90 for the standard rate.
Daily Living Part 2023/2024 | Daily Living Part 2022/2023 | Increase | |
---|---|---|---|
Enhanced Rate | £101.75 | £92.40 | £9.35 |
Standard Rate | £68.10 | £61.85 | £6.25 |
Mobility Part 2023/2024 | Mobility Part 2022/2023 | Increase | |

Standard Rate | £26.90 | £24.45 | £2.45 |
In April 2023, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) rose by 10.1%, in line with inflation. This 10.1% increase was applied to all DWP and HMRC benefits.
This led to the following increases in PIP rates:
If you qualify for the 2023/2024 enhanced daily living and mobility components of PIP, you’ll get £172.75 a week, £748.53 a month and £8,983 a year. This is an increase of £15.85 a week, £68.63 a month and £824.20 a year.
To be eligible for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you’ll need to be aged over 16 but under the State Pension age.
You also need to have a medical condition or disability which makes day-to-day life and/or getting around tougher. You must have experienced these difficulties for at least three months and expect them to continue for at least another nine months (unless you’re terminally ill with six months or fewer to live).
Often, people who require assistance with daily living also need personal care, including help with preparing meals, personal hygiene, getting dressed and undressed, medication management and communication.
We have a guide explaining all the medical conditions that could make you eligible for PIP.
PIP is for people living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. If you live in Scotland, you should instead apply for Adult Disability Payment.
You can make a new PIP claim by calling the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on 0800 917 2222. You can have somebody else call on your behalf, provided you’re present during the call.
Next, you’ll be sent a form to fill in. Once this form has been sent off, you’ll be invited for an assessment (this could be in person or online). Your health or social care worker may also be asked for any additional information.
From this assessment, you’ll be assigned a score, according to your ability to perform certain tasks. This score will determine whether you qualify and how much money you should be awarded through PIP. You’ll be given this score in a letter informing you of whether your claim has been successful.
The Benefit Cap refers to the total amount of benefits you can receive if you’re of working age. Just like disability benefits, this cap rose in line with inflation by 10.1% in April 2023. ---|---|---|---|
If you live outside of London (couples, or single parents with dependent children) | £22,020 | £20,000 | £2,020 |

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is now worth £440.92 per month at the higher daily living rate and £295.10 per month at the lower rate.

The government issued a £150 Cost of Living Payment for people receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in September 2022. They’ve also handed out a further £150 Cost of Living Payment between the 20th of June and the 4th of July 2023.
If you were receiving PIP or had made an application for it which has since been approved (by the 1st of April 2023), you will have been eligible for this second payment.
If you claim PIP after you’ve reached the State Pension age, you’ll usually be given an ‘indefinite award’, meaning there’s technically no end date. However, your claim will be periodically reviewed to ensure you’re still eligible and are in compliance with any new claims processes.
